Purpose of volunteering

The main purpose of volunteering is to preserve the habitat and improve the environment in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and with regard to the preservation of natural resources in the vicinity of Santikaram Forest Temple, which is also the seat of the Santikaram Association Slovakia.

In the vicinity of Santikaram Forest Temple, there are several species of protected animals (spotted salamander, brown frog, tree snake, tree bat, mountain shrew, dark hedgehog), protected birds (white-backed woodpecker, common chaffinch, yellow-tailed house flycatcher, great tit, black thrush, etc.), as well as several species of protected insects (golden wagtail, dragonflies, butterflies, swifts, mayflies, spiders, etc).

Volunteer activities are focused on creating a suitable environment for protected and endangered animals, such as cleaning natural lakes and marshes, deepening the bed of a forest stream that collects water from the surrounding area, cleaning the forest and creating natural shelters from branches, stumps and stones, making birdhouses and feeders, building paved sidewalks from natural materials, feeding birds and animals (squirrels, deers) in the winter months, etc.

Volunteer Days
Volunteers meet once a month, with volunteer days starting every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Santikaram Forest Temple. Gloves, tools and implements are available at the temple. In case of inclement weather, various works are done indoors. There is a possibility to sleep over from Saturday to Sunday in the temple, or volunteer activities can continue on Sunday.
